The river Spaarne is almost covered with all kinds of boats. During some days they stay there, and a few of them can even be visited.
Furthermore on the right side of the Spaarne you will find all kinds of goods for sale, whereas on the left side of the Spaarne second hand books can be bought.

The mill is called De Adriaan
De Adriaan, an eightcornered corn mill, was built in the year 1779. Burnt down in 1932. Rebuilt in 1999. Since the mill is situated in a city, it had to be built on top of another building in order to catch the wind. The original mill, the one that was burnt down, was built on top of the remnants of one of the towers belonging to the city walls, surrounding Haarlem and protecting it against invaders.

At the left: the Teylers Courtyard, the tower belongs to the Bakenesser Church.

Originally this tower was meant for the medieval Grote or St. Bavo Church.
