Milazzo (Latin: Mylae) is a town of on the north coast of Sicily, Italy. It lies 50 km from Messina, just north of the road to Palermo. It is located on a peninsula called Capo di Milazzo. Milazzo, as it was in antiquity, is the gateway port to the "seven sisters," the Aeolian Islands, named for Aeolus, god of winds, nymphs and satyrs.

During World War II, the Facist regime looked for ways to finance their activites. The order was given to take the silver statue of Saint Bartholomew and melt it down. The statue was weighed and it was found to be only several ounces. It was returned to its place in the Cathedral in Lipari.
