Just to show, once again, the heights I go to, to get ‘that’ capture; I am on top of a rock called the ‘small Pyramid’ which was “formed during the first eruptive phase of an ancient volcano which was entered in what is now Otago Harbour”. It is made of dark rock called Basalt.

Inaugurated on 30th March 1989, this pyramid of glass and iron serves as a perfect modern counterpoint to the light stone of the palace.Pei's pyramid is 21.6 metres high and is made of 673 panes of glass . It divides the façade of the palace into a multitude of kaleidoscopic views.

It is the new (and controversial) entrance to the Louvre.
And it is a pyramid, so although it may be difficult to see from this photo, it does not go straight up, but up at a 45° angle.
