Holland - Trip by bike from IJmuiden to Amstelveen and back on 10th and 11th October 2006 - approx. 80 km (with some detours). The red paths are for bicycles, on the right side it goes along the water and that is so nice.

Pumping station Houtrakpolder (keeping the water out of the polder)
The pumping stations took over the task of the poldermills. At first the pumpingstations worked on steam engines, now the pumps are driven on by electricity. Fortunately a growing part of the electricity we use in Holland is obtained via the modern windmills. We call this electricity 'green electricity' because it does not cause air pollution.
