As promised, here's a picture from inside of the shrine. Men and women pray separately with hands on the cage that surrounds the tomb. If you look closer, you might be able to see that I have combined tow pictures just to show the ambiance. Unfortunately, I wasn't sure how people would tolerate an intruder with a camera, and whether I will be disturbing their prayers ... At the end nobody seemed to notice me, but it was too late and we had to leave ... May be next time ...

We recently visited Imam Khomeini's shrine in South East of Tehran, Iran. It's built right off the famous cemetery of 'Behesht-e-Zahra' (Zahra's Paradise). The shrine was built right after Khomeini's death and has since become a high place of pilgrimage for many Moslems. This mausoleum was the only one standing next to the shrine. I didn't dare asking whether other mausoleums were destroyed to build it ... I will be posting other shots of the inside of the shrine shortly.
