We inquired at the local inn if there was a room available for us, and were genuinely pleased to recieve a warm and friendly welcome. <br /><br />A huge difference, I must say, from the rather semi-rude people of Venice. (With evidence of use as far back as the Bronze Age).<br />The road is only open from june to september each year.<br /><br />For centuries, this was the only road between northern Europe and southern Europe for hundreds of miles on either flank.
