Our overall winner this week is Brontz for this great image of a seagull being slightly intimidated by 4 bigger birds. This has strong colours in it and is expertly composed, down to the scary expression on the bird in the centre of the picture, just daring the photographer to get closer! Well done Brontz!

Thank you to everyone who participated in Challenge 86 "Glass". We had some varied and truly imaginative entries this week from a good cross-section of the FT community and it took us a while to whittle down the short list.

We have chosen PhotoPro as the overall winner as we just kept coming back to this picture.
The stained glass window is surely one of the most beautiful examples of glass being at the centre of art and PhotoPro does a first class job at showing us this. The diffusion of light and colour here, as well as being stunning, also highlights just how many pieces of glass are being used.

Second place this week goes to Danisto for this picture of a functional use of glass. It’s one of those images which makes you really stare at it to see what it is. The perspective from above is a good way of showing just how thick the test tubes are.

In third place is Jatmoko with this excellent broken lightbulb, which shows us how glass can be used to protect that which is within. The shell of the bulb being broken, highlights the sharpness and texture of the jagged glass.

Glass is all around us, whether it's a vast sheet in the buildings surrounding us (like in the example above) or in a tiny gem stone. It can have practical uses, but can also be an object of beauty, especially when used to reflect light and colour.


We would like you to have fun interpreting “Glass” within your entries. You may like to try looking for detail in items you wouldn’t normally photograph as well as playing with different perspectives, and macro shots.

Remember, it does not matter whether you have the latest technology or indeed a humble cameraphone, what we are looking for is vision, originality and photos that really capture the theme.
